Afro-Swiss Spotlight: Coumba Sow
Meet Coumba Sow, a professional football player who began her career at age 12, playing for SV Höngg and later FC Zurich's junior teams while also pursuing her studies.
She moved to the USA, where she played for Monroe Community College before joining the Oklahoma State Cowgirls in 2016. Despite a cruciate ligament injury, she made a successful comeback in 2017.
Returning to Switzerland in 2018, Coumba rejoined FC Zurich. Seeking new challenges, she moved to Paris FC in 2019. Later, in January 2023, she joined Servette FC Chênois Féminin for more playing time. After a season, she signed with FC Basel for the 2023/24 season, committing to a three-year contract.
Coumba represents Switzerland's national team, having made her debut during the 2018 during a World Cup qualifier against the Netherlands. She also participated in the 2022 European Women's Football Championship.
Throughout her journey, Coumba has achieved various successes, winning Swiss Championship titles in 2013, 2014, and 2019 (with FC Zurich) and Swiss Cup victories in 2013 and 2019 (with FC Zurich) and 2023 (with Servette FC).
