Loving Me - Multilingualism, School, and Belonging

  • Wintherthur 8400 Zurich Switzerland (map)

Raising children in multilingual families can be a source of strength, pride, and connection — but it can also bring questions and uncertainty, especially within the school and integration context.

This workshop creates a supportive space for parents and caregivers to explore multilingualism as part of their child’s identity and everyday school experience. Together, we will reflect on common concerns around language development, integration, and belonging, and discuss how schools understand and respond to multilingual children.

We will share practical tools and perspectives to help parents and caregivers confidently support their children in navigating school environments, responding to external pressures, and valuing both heritage and school languages.

This workshop is for parents and caregivers who want to:

  • better understand multilingualism in the Swiss school context

  • feel more confident supporting their child’s language development

  • navigate questions of integration, belonging, and identity

  • respond to concerns or misconceptions from schools and professionals

  • value and maintain heritage languages alongside school languages

This workshop forms part of the ongoing Loving Me series, which centres reflective and empowering spaces for parents and caregivers raising children of Afro-descent.
